Andrew is on the mend!

We have had a crazy week! It all started about 2 weeks ago when Andrew got sick. I didn't really think too much of it because I thought it would pass. By the end of the week he was much worse so I made a Dr. appointment. About one hour before our appointment the Dr. office called and said go to the emergency room! If only they had said so earlier my day would have been easier. Luckily Mike was home and took him (this was a week ago Fri.). They sent him home with 3 different meds! So over the weekend he still didn't get any better and was actually getting worse because now he was vomiting and not able to keep anything down including the meds that were supposed to make him better. Mon. morning I call our Dr. again and we go see her. She said that this is pretty bad and we need to go see the specialist now. She called to make sure we could get right in. They said come over right now, We have someone waiting for him! So we rushed right over! The specialist checked him out and then added 2 more meds (that's a total of 5 in case you got lost). Andrew also had to go back on Thurs. At home I don't see much improvement, but I didn't think things were getting worse. I WAS WRONG!! Thus. morning I take him back to the Dr. and foolishly took the twins with me. I thought Andrew would get checked out and we would be told to keep on the meds and to come back when the meds were gone just to make sure all was well. That is not what happened. Our appointment was with the PA and after he looked at Andrew he said that we had to stay here. This is a surgical decision now and the surgeon will be back in 20 min to an hour. (And my adventure continues!) Now I have to call my mom and have her get Ammon. Call the school and tell them that Nana will be getting Andrew and not me. Now for the most difficult task of all keep the twins quiet and happy while we wait for the surgeon. As soon as the surgeon comes and examines Andrew he asks a few questions and says that the best thing would be to do an exploratory surgery that may lead to much more evasive treatment depending on what he finds. By now it is 11:00 (our apt. was for 9:15) and they want me to take him straight over to the hospital! Back on the phone with my mom so she can take the twins and back to the hospital so I can get Andrew admitted and the blood work done. I call Mike and he leaves work to pick up my Dad so we can give him a blessing. In case you are wondering this is not really what I had planned for my day. I'm pretty sure its not really what Andrew had in mind, either.

So when Mike was helping Andrew get undressed and into the bed, Dad and I had to entertain ourselves. We were getting a lot of stares. I don't really know why, but we guessed that they mus have thought that my Dad was clergy (white shirt and tie). True enough I guess, but I thought it would have been funny to offer and see if anyone else wanted last rights too! (I know, my Dad and I are a little quirky, but we have fun!) Then this old lady (there was a lot of old people) came over and asked what my son was having surgery for. Was it his tonsils or something? No, it's more serious than tonsils. (yes I was deliberately vague and still am) She told me she just felt bad for him because she saw that he was teary. He's just nervous.

Andrew is finally ready and the nurse tells us we have at least 45 min. before the Dr. will be out and ready to talk to us so we decide to go get some lunch. We come back after 45 min. only to learn that the Dr. has already been here and left. WHAT?!?! Will he be back? (no) So then we wait for Andrew to be moved into his room at which point we ask that nurse if he will be back. Finally we get Andrew into his room and his new nurse says that she will call him and ask him to call the room and talk to us. Yes, the jerk of a Dr. left the hospital with out talking to the parents of a minor about what he did to their child! I WAS MAD! Now I have to leave to go get Sariah and take her to my parents. Then I have to get Zachary so I run back home to get him, put in some laundry, put clean sheets on Andrew's bed (cuz it makes me feel better). I get some things at home to take back over to my parents to contribute to dinner (I delegated this job to my Dad). Then I go back to my parents to drop off Zachary and the food. I pick up Sariah and take her to her Student-led Conference (she has a great teacher!). Now you are probably wondering why I didn't cancel the P/T conference and I will tell you I tried and no one answered the phone! (This was just another frustration that I have had with schools this week!) So now we go back to my parents house to have dinner. Wait the Dr. finally called between dropping off Sariah and getting Zachary. Not the greatest news, but now Andrew can get better! The final trial of the evening is getting everyone clean and in bed. They really must be bathed after playing at Nana's because she has a really great dirt pile they love to dig and dig and usually end up throwing dirt at each other. They were really messy! I got them all in bed and I tried to go to bed but I was so tense!! I was wondering why I couldn't sleep and then I realized that my entire body was stiff and I couldn't relax! I really only slept for about 5 hours. I got up and went to the hospital at about 7. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss the Dr. again! Andrew and I had a treat of a breakfast. I brought him a muffing and a chocolate milk. I haven't had a chocolate milk in so long! YUMMY!

Well the Dr. checked him out and said he could go home! We were home by 10. Andrew was so glad to leave the hospital! Who isn't, really.

So after one heck of a week, Andrew is doing sooo much better already and he just had is surgery on Thurs.! These little trials really make you thankful for your health! Something we never really think about until something goes wrong. I am so THANKFUL that he is getting better! I love you Andrew!
